Immigration & Corporate VISAs

What is the most recommended type of work visa for relocating employees to Mexico?

The best option is the Temporary Resident Visa with authorization to perform remunerated activities (Visa de Residente Temporal con Permiso de Trabajo). This requires sponsorship from a legally established Mexican company.

What is the main type of work visa for relocating employees to Brazil?

The most common work visa for employees of Brazilian companies, technical specialists, or administrators is the VITEM V (Temporary Work Visa). This category has several sub-types depending on the specific nature of the work contract or assignment.

What does my Mexican company need to do to sponsor foreign employees?

Your Mexican company must first obtain an Employer Registration Certificate (Constancia de Inscripción de Empleador) from the National Migration Institute. BlackBox assists in obtaining this registration in 1-2 weeks.

What is the general process for obtaining a Brazilian work visa like VITEM V?

* The Brazilian sponsoring company must apply for work authorization from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) / General Coordination of Labor Immigration (CGIL).

* Once approved, the employee applies for the VITEM V visa at the relevant Brazilian consulate abroad.

* Upon arrival in Brazil, the employee must register with the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) to obtain their National Migration Registry Card (CRNM).

Which government agency handles work visas in Mexico?

The National Migration Institute (Instituto Nacional de Migración or INM) is the agency responsible for processing work visa authorizations within Mexico. However, the visa itself is issued by a Mexican consulate abroad, and final residency documentation is processed by the INM upon arrival.

Can BlackBox help with visas for the families (dependents) of our employees?

Yes. We manage the application process for dependent visas (spouses, children) for both Mexico and Brazil, ensuring families can relocate together smoothly.

At BlackBox we have taken a humanistic approach to assist clients in all aspects of the immigration procedure; basically, we take care of everything.

We have helped many entrepreneurs that migrate to Mexico and Latin America to launch their Startups obtain their Business/Work Visas and also their Permanent Resident Visas.

Our legal expertise and experience in immigration matters will allow your Mexican Startup company to be authorized (by the Mexican government) to act as an “immigration sponsor” for Work Visas (hence, allowing it to request the Visas for the members of the Startup that require one).

Some things to consider when relocating to Mexico:

  • With a few exceptions, a Mexican Visa cannot be authorized within Mexican territory; you need to have an interview at a Mexican consulate outside of Mexico.

  • The Visa card itself is not issued by the Mexican consulate; instead, they process and pre-approve the application and stamp a visa-sticker in your passport.

  • When you arrive to Mexico you have to attend the Immigration Office within 30 days of arrival, and undertake a procedure to obtain the physical Visa card (which is your temporary resident permit).

  • The Business/Work Visa is valid for 1 year initially, and must be timely renewed.

  • After 4 years of holding a temporary resident permit, you can apply for a PERMANENT residency.
